Step by step: Reconcile withholding tax

1. Configure withholding tax

  • Go to Reconciliation under Settings & Admin in the menu on the left.

  • Select the Payroll Settings tab and then the Withheld Tax tab.

  • Here you can:

    • Enable or disable bank guarantee.

    • Select payday.

💡 Payday is suggested automatically based on the date most often used on the account marked as Withholding tax – Transferred.

2. Check payment tax setup

  • Go to the Payment Tax tab.

  • Specify which accounts should be used for:

    • Withholding tax – Allocated (for Xledger, e.g. account 2601 should be mapped here. For other accounting systems, no account should be mapped)

    • Withholding tax – Transferred (must be linked to a bank account for payment, e.g. account 1950)

    • Withholding tax – Paid

  • Use the pencil icon on the relevant row to change the linked account.

3. Check payroll settings mapping

  • Go to the Mapping tab.

  • Use the pencil icon to specify which account should be linked to Withholding tax – Allocated, e.g. account 2600.

4. Go to Withholding tax

  • Go to Payroll under Reconciliation in the menu on the left and select the Withholding tax tab.

  • Here you will see one row per month with columns for:

    • Amount from Altinn (A07)

    • Amount from general ledger (GL)

    • Deviations

    • Payday

    • Days between payment and payday

    • Mapped transactions

    • Comments

💡 The annual overview shows all months – here the period selector is only used to approve periods.

5. Map transactions

  • Click Map transaction on the relevant month.

  • The system automatically suggests bank transactions based on date and amount.

  • Find the correct transaction and click Map transaction.

  • Repeat for all months to be reconciled.

💡 You can only link one payroll run per period. Use the comment field to explain any deviations.
